A home of a young family relocated from New York City to East Norwalk, this Cape Cod-style house underwent an extensive renovation. Built in the late 19th century, the house stood on great bones in a sought-after location but was neglected over the years. The renovation included gutting and redesigning the kitchen and bathrooms, ripping out old wall-to-wall carpets and replacing them with hardwood floors, transforming the previously-dingy basement and building a home gym, updating the plumbing and HVAC systems, exterior masonry work and landscape re-design. The clients requested that the design include some traditional Connecticut-style elements woven into a contemporary setting enveloped in bright colors and sustainable materials.
